Reading a book about Web sites is a bit like listening to a CD about tap dancing. I mean, you sort of get the idea, but you're kind of missing a whole dimension. So I didn't expect much from The Woman's Guide to Sex on the Web by Anne Semans and Cathy Winks. But after a slow start, the book really was a pleasant—not to mention informative—surprise. ... There are wise cautions about protecting your privacy and avoiding ripoffs on pay sites, and funny sidebar rants about bad web design and evil emoticons. Best of all, though, Semans and Winks (their names?! hello!?) have really come up with a wide-ranging collection of quality sites. ... All are reviewed from a strong-sassy perspective—that is, with no apologies for being sexy and sexual, yet no desire to be powerless or dumb. Breakup Girl is not getting my copy of it back. At least not until I get my question answered.

The Woman's Guide to Sex on the Web is a wonderful guidebook for those seeking sexual information and enhancement of their sex lives through the web. Well-researched, clear, and very readable, the book dismisses the sleazy pay-first web come-ons that appeal only to men whose brains are encircled by their coronal ridge. My only complaint is its exclusionary title. This book is not just for women; it is for all people who see sex as a coming together of equals for mutual pleasure and celebration. In the often tawdry environment of web sex, this reasonable book is a breath of fresh air.

"Nice Girls Log On" note authors Anne Seman and Cathy Winks, who have undertaken the daunting task of guiding women to explore sexual topics on the Internet without being assaulted with unending X-rated photographs of people doing things once considered mechanically impossible. The Woman's Guide to Sex on the Web is explicit enough for Larry Flynt but on an intellectual plane far above the geeks with Pamula Anderson Lee screensavers.
